Pulse Oximeters measure oxygenation levels in patients by noninvasively or continuously monitoring oxygen saturation in arterial blood. Most Pulse oximetry systems use a transmissive optical technique, featuring a clip with optical electronics attached to a finger, toe, or ear. Light is transmitted through the skin on one side of the clip and received on the other, using LED’s and a photodiode.
